How do you calculate the calories in a dish/soup?!

Question: How do you calculate the calories in a dish/soup?
I combined many ingredients together w/water and chicken broth and butter..so do I just measure the calories in each ingredient and then add it all together?

For some reason, I can't help but think that calories change when you cook something. I know, sounds dumb. But thanks in advance!

Answers:

The only food that changes calories when cooked would be meat, especially fatty meats. The fat cooks out by dripping away or by being poured off, like from a pan of hamburger. Here is a calculator that can help you figure the calories in a recipe. http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_…

Calories do not change. You add them all up and that would be the cals for the whole pot of soup
