It means boil gently to evaporate some of the water, leaving the residue more concentrated.



It means let it simmer in the pan, until most of the water in whatever-is-it-you-are-cooking reduces and it becomes thicker and more concentrated.



"Let some of the water boil off" is the quick version so if you have a veg/stock mix you simmer it to lose some of the water off to thicken things up.



It means, let it sort of boil or simmer in the pan, on the heat so that the water evaporates and it thickens up slightly.

It means to cook the liquid until the extra water evaporates and the sauce thickens by ''reducing'' in size, usually in half.
