I used to add 3 spoons of sugar to each cup of coffee .To cut down I just added a little less sugar each day for 3 weeks and now I drink coffee" almost" without sugar.I like the taste of a little sugar in my coffee so I didn't eliminate it completely.Because it was so gradual, I didn't miss the taste of the extra sugar.;)

Honey is good for all but babies (they can't process it) or those with honey allergies. It is highly digestible and it's the only natural food in the world that doesn't spoil (Twinkies aren't supposed to, but that's hardly natural).

Another interesting concept is agave syrup. This is derived from the agave plant, which is used to make tequila. They cut down the agave plant, cut off the leaves, and then roast it in a brick oven to turn the starches into sugars. They then press the juice (syrup) out and ferment the sugars to make the tequila. But, you can also use the agave syrup as a sweetener. They sell bottles of it at grocery stores and even at Costco.

Then there's the artificial sweeteners, specifically Splenda and Equal. Equal has aspartame in it and there's evidence that it causes health problems. Splenda has maltodextrin and a sucrose derivative in it, which is not supposed to be as bad for you as aspartame. Saccharine, which has a bitter aftertaste, is supposedly a carcinogen (they fed pounds of it to lab rats who then developed cancer).

Sugar has gotten an undeserved bad rep. It really isn't that bad for you, like everything else-in moderation. Much healthier than artificial sweeteners. Honey is fine as well, but considering the price difference, I would stick with sugar and just not use quite as much.

Splenda, for sure. It is not an artificial sweetener like most other sweeteners. Those all contain the chemical aspartame which, studies have shown is probably not the best for ya! Splenda is made from sucralose which, is still a form of sugar...just modified I believe. And use less of it than you would normal sugar because it is sweeter.

Sugar in the raw is your healthiest option... honey doesn't pair well with coffee it's great in tea though!

processed sugars and sugar substitutes like equal and sweet n low are not good for you.

I agree with the Splenda folks. I use it in my coffee as well as most of my baked goods.
