Wanting to make my granny a bday lunch, does this sound good?!

Question: Wanting to make my granny a bday lunch, does this sound good?
Ok, so my granny is turning 77 this Sunday! We're going over there and having family, cake, etc. But I've been wanting/starting to cook a lot more lately. Even more since I got a cook book and an apron for Christmas. I'm wanting to go back over Monday for lunch and make some food. It's going to be my granny, mom and I(3 great generations :)). I wanted to have something before hand like a salad, but found this fruit kinda stuff. Which looks good to me. My granny doesn't eat a lot of fruit and stuff so I'm wanting her(as well as my mom and I) to have a healthy lunch. So this is the lunch I picked out. I want the dishes to go together and I need one more side, but don't know what kind of something to put there.

First I want to give the fruit salad-
Fruit salad with banana dressing

Then for the main dish-
Tortellini Alfredo with roasted peppers
http://www.bhg.com/recipe/pasta/tortellini-alfredo-with-roasted-peppers/

The 1st side is my dad's green beans-
Take fresh green beans and soak them over night in A Thousand Island(I think that's the one), then when it's time to make them, you put them in a skillet w/ a tad bit of oil and let them just get to a almost limp look. Then they're done.

2nd side- actually was thinking about it, my uncle made some yellow squash and it had a butter-y taste. It was very good.

Also, I was thinking about drinks, maybe some wine? I don't know? I really only drink water and juice. But my mom and granny are very into swwwweeeet tea(I say it that way because my granny can put about 2 cups of sugar in a pitch!) and sodas. I was wanting something other than water, soda and tea. Is there anything that would taste good with this? It also doesn't have to be with alch. I'd rather not since I don't drink it really at all and wouldn't know what to get, but I thought I would try something new.

Then for desert- my granny has a SWEET TOOTH like nooo other! haha. I decided a brownie mixture because so many people are bringing cakes and pies.

Brownie surprise cupcakes- the insert will be snickers(her fav)

Thanks you everyone who reads this far! haha. I really appreciate the help and everything. Please let me know what your honest opinion is. Any advice is very welcomed! Thanks again. :)

Miss Robin,

i think it is mighty sweet of you to prepare a special lunch for your Mom and Grandmother. I'm sure it will be a great success.

Just one thing, if Grandmother is not much of a fruit eater, she might not care for your salad. I'm the same way and that banana dressing would be a turn-off to me. So don't be surprised or hurt if Grandmother only takes a few bites of it.

The Tortellini sounds great, and your Dad's green beans sounds downright interesting.

I wish you could send me one of those Brownie Surprise Cupcakes, sounds wicked good!

As for drinks, I agree with you. I'd rather drink water than syrupy sweet tea. Let me suggest you make some fruit spritzers for lunch. pick out your Grandmother's, your Mothers, and your favorite fruits, puree them in a blinder, separately not mixed together, or just opt for something like peaches, or strawberries. Using Champagne Flutes, place a generous tablespoon of the pureed fruit in the bottom of the glass, then fill it with club soda, give it a good stir and garnish with a couple of pieces of fruit on a skewer.

I hope everything turns out well, and I hope you can keep your Grandmother for many, many more 3-Generation lunches, and maybe even for a few 4-Generation Lunches.

good job. makin my mouth water.............

Your menu sounds quite ambitious. CUDOS.
Does granny have an ethnic background? Latino, Greek, Russian ...?
Try to incorporate some dish from the "old country" if there is one! Something maybe she hasn't had in the last 50 years which may remind her of childhood! Worked for my great grandma at 98 yrs young.

Alch is up to you. If granny likes a good sherry or brandy ... serve it with tea or coffee after the meal as an appertif. No reason to get everyone bombed before the meal is over. Play this by ear.

Happy B-Day Granny!

I see you like to cook. We all like to eat out at restaurants but in today's economy it is one of those things that is getting to expensive to do anymore. If you are looking to duplicate their favorite restaurant recipes I really like this program America's Secret Recipes. It shows you How to Make Your Favorite Restaurant Dishes at Home! I also read that some of the popular restaurants are upset with this guy and are trying to force if off the market. Check it out it might be something you can use.

Sounds good to me!!!!!!!! Now I'm hungry ): haha. As for the drink, I'm only 15 so idk about wine but usually wine goes well with pasta I think? So I guess red wine would be good? And if there will be any kids there then I think cranberry juice or something would go well.

Good luck! (: <3

All good but i would make a cheese cake as they are easy and yummy you could also bake brownie for later on in the evening or with the cheesecake

sorry it sucks i know good luck i just suck at this lol
