Question: Make a cake red using maraschino cherries?
If I add maraschino cherry juice to a regular white cake batter, will it turn the cake red? And will it taste ok?

It will turn pink. To get a nice red, you need to get a gel coloring or a heck of a lot of regular food coloring.



It would probably make it light pink, depending on how much of the juice you want. If you're trying to just dye the batter and not get the cherry flavor, I suggest you use red food coloring. Maraschino cherries are very overpowering and may ruin the flavor that you were trying to get from a regular cake. Go with the food coloring! Don't use too much.



It will only make a light pink. It requires a enormous amount of food coloring to get a decent red, so much that it can affect the taste. The color gels work much better. A red velvet mix of course will give you the best red color cake. Without a food coloring of some kind you are not going to get a good red color from a white cake mix.
