Is there a way to make fried ice cream without corn flakes?!

Question: Is there a way to make fried ice cream without corn flakes?
Corn flakes are an important part of fried ice cream, I am aware of this. However, I have a recently diagnosed allergy to corn and am unable to eat corn or products made with corn. I LOVE fried ice cream, but am wondering if anyone has ever heard of a recipe for fried ice cream that doesn't use corn flakes or any products made with corn? (Products made with high fructose corn syrup are also out of the question.) THANKS!!

Answers:

you could use breadcrumbs or cookie crumbs as a replacement (:

Here's a recipe from http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe/Deep-Fried-Ice-Cream-L3181.html:

Ingredients

Ice-cream, frozen very firmly
Eggs, beaten
Breadcrumbs

Method

1. Place a metal tray in the freezer one hour before starting.
2. Scoop out ice-cream into a ball.
3. Roll in breadcrumbs and place into the freezer on cold tray for at least 2 hours.
4. Roll balls in beaten egg and back into breadcrumbs again, pushing the breadcrumbs on tightly. 5. Refreeze again until firm.
6. Heat oil in deep fryer or wok until very hot.
7. Deep fry each ice-cream ball for 10 seconds or until golden. Serve with caramel strawberry or chocolate topping.

You should be able to use rice krispies, crushed potato chips, cracker crumbs, etc, but check out the ice cream. Some brands use stabilizers made from corn, and some may use HFCS. Although.....now that I think about it, HFCS has nothing whatsoever to do with corn in that state..... just as white sugar has nothing to do with beets or cane at that point.
