Can I use greek style yoghurt as a substitute for buttermilk?!

Question: Can I use greek style yoghurt as a substitute for buttermilk?
I have a recipe which calls for buttermilk.. I've heard you can use plain yoghurt instead, but is greek style yoghurt the same thing? And can I use it instead of buttermilk?

Answers:

no, greek yogurt has a low water content, condensed protein and it normally has some sort of salt or other flavoring added. your best bet would be 1 table spoon of lemon juice in 1 cup of fat free milk and let it sit 2-5min before using but not more than 10min. its good for baking but if u are doing something like southern fried chicken u need real buttermilk.

Yes. You might want to thin it out with some milk or water if you need it to be the consistency of buttermilk.
