What was the first thing you learned to cook?!

Question: What was the first thing you learned to cook?
My daughter is doing Food Tech at school at the mo, used to be called Home Ec when I was at school. The first thing we cooked was a fruit salad ?, the first thing my daughter did was bake biscuits. And very nice they were too.

First thing I ever made was when I was 4 and I helped my mother bake my birthday cake. I still bake, and have ever since then.

The first thing I ever made that wasn't a baked good was a roasted chicken

steak and potatoes
green chile enchilada casserole
frijoles (pinto beans)
breakfast

I was doing these dishes long before I took Home Ec in junior hi! the dish we first "cooked" in HE was rice pudding which takes more than 45 minutes allowed for the class time so it was all a half cooked flop and all got scraped into the trash cans. The teacher was and still is an idiot!!

Was way back in 1983 but they started us off with how to make a meat sauce for spaghetti. And then a full dinner with garlic bread and a salad and dressing. They wanted us to learn an entire meal each week starting with the first week.

There are a lot of kitchen principles to be learned by that meal.

But many years before that, at home my dad first started me on making toast. :) I think I was only four at the time and only had a Dad. From there I think I learned scrambled eggs next.

Hiya I saw your question about cooking, I was a bit of a novice when I started out but recently I just kept an eye on some websites and they give great tips about pretty much all cooking stuff. I use the one below but its up to you. They have many links to other sites if you want to hunt around. Best of luck.

When I was 12 and my mom was sleeping, I made cookies without her permission. I know, I shouldn't have. She was mad till she tasted them :-) If your daughter can bake biscuits she's got one over on me; I've been cooking for decades and it's one of the few things I can't do- they always turn out hard as saltine crackers.

Mine is called FACS (family and consumer sciences.) we made eggs in the microwave first. Bleh!

What I remember learning to do on my own would be cookies. My mom always made cookies so I learned too.
