How long will an apple pie be delicious?!
Answers:
It's quality will go down with each passing day. Why don't you cook the pie at your cousin's house.
Honestly, I truly believe the crust will be soggy by then, and it just won't show off your amazing pie in a good light.
I believe you have 2 options
1) Prep the pie and freeze it, baking it on Friday night or Saturday. I would say bake it frozen following a standard frozen pie directions.
2) Make your crust ahead of time, pack it on ice, and put it in the fridge when you get there. throw it together the night before and throw it in the oven I say this because the crust is the hardest part.
If I was you I would rather keep my amazing baking bragging rights over risking soggy icky pie :)
Wrap it well in the fridge with waxed paper, if you have it .... most people use plastic wrap; I find wax paper is just fine, prefer not to buy a lot of plastic. Even aluminum foil is better.
Just a side note: In your apple pie, do you only use one kind of apple? I'm not real fond of apple pie, but when I have made it last few times, I used two or three different kinds of apples, which gave it a very nice taste and texture variety. I like romas, galas and grannie smiths.
I would freeze it until you leave. that way it will be still cold when you get there (not sure where you are coming from) and then you can put it in the fridge when you get there.
Bake the pie, bring it to room temperature, then wrap it very well (plastic wrap then aluminium foil) and pop it in the freezer.
You can actually keep it in the freezer and it will still be totally awesome!
I've done this!
i would keep it in the fridge and pop it back in the oven for 15-30 mins before serving.
Put it in the freezer. IT WILL NEVER STOP BEING DELICIOUS!
