Yes, they are of the onion family and, like onions, if you fry them very gently for a while it will bring out the sugars in them. Don't deep fry or fry hard, just on a low heat for a while - you can eventually get them to caramelise!

I have deep fried fried leeks before and it did not turn out sweet. Keep in mind that frying is different from deep frying. The leeks were crispy and kind tasted like french fries.



No. Besides you would have to parboil the leeks.
