What can I use as a Vinegar Substitute?!

Question: What can I use as a Vinegar Substitute?
Making "chimichongas" or my mom's version anyway. It uses the following:

London Broil
Spices (Garlic, Onion, Cumin, Oregano)
Vinegar

I don't think the vinegar has to react with anything, but I just realize I never bought it... Does anyone know if it's imperative? Or does anyone have a suggestion on what to use in place?

Answers:

maybe some lemon juice or something else acidic to help with the flavour balance of the dish.

or, try making it without and see if its really necessary or not, maybe its fine without this time

lemon, lime, orange, even grapefruit juice would be acidic.

any citrus juice, even grape juice.

see if you have anything pickled in the frig. or cupboard and steal some for your recipe.

since this sound like a marinade, you really can be creative. even an italian style salad dressing could work.

I'd use lemon or lime juice, beef broth or red wine instead of the vinegar. None of these will be as tart, but you should get some good flavor.

Yes you need the acidity. I would use lime juice since it is a Mexcian dish.

LIME juice...is awesome for a mexican dish and will work well with this it sounds like

I would use Lemon Juice.
