Do you ever use dutch oven in your home kitchen?!

Question: Do you ever use dutch oven in your home kitchen?
I bought this dutch oven for camping but I'm wondering if I can use it to cook meals at home. I mean I know I can, but if there is anything special I can make in the dutch oven that I can't do with the other pots and pans. Thanks .. let me know.

A dutch oven is great for hoem frying, and slow cooking. Just slide it in the oven on low. It retains the heat so well.

You sure can! The trick is to buy a book dedicated to dutch oven cooking - they do require special care, as I suspect you know. I own five of 'em and use them as often as my other cookware. Now, if you want a REAL challenge - I can bake a cake in my large Dutch oven - a wedding cake! This particular oven is properly called a "camp oven". It sits on three short legs over a campfire and has a lid with a rim that I can put hot coals on top of. And yes, I've baked cakes in it. Needless to say, ya don't use this one in the home kitchen...

I use my dutch oven for making chili and soup and stew..if I want to slow cook I use a crock pot..

I don't fry in my dutch oven...I do saute in it for soups..You can bake bread in a dutch oven..as long as the handle on the lid is oven proof...

I use mine all the time...

Hope this helps...

Yes I do.
My one is a great SS oval one that can take large pieces of meats like a roast leg. To begin with I will put the meat in covered, but for the last 30 minutes or there abouts I use the lid as a roasting pan for my veggies.

The type you mention about hanging over a camp fire gives you the advantage of browning the meat first, and then putting on the cover and into the oven.<a href=http://answers.yahoo.com/question/"http://media.photobucket.com/image… oven/MountainBellePhotos/PICT0139c.jpg??o… target="_blank"><img src="http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/… border="0"></a>

We use a dutch oven frequently to do stews, braises and even bake bread in.

It is great for pot roasts,or chicken and dumplings
