Why does the microwave make things soggy, waffles for example?!

Question: Why does the microwave make things soggy, waffles for example?
When I either put waffles on a paper towel or on a plate they always turn out soggy, I don't really like to toast them because of their crispiness. But why does it make things soggy?

Answers:

Microwaves work by heating water in the food. Basically it's just thawing the water in the waffles.
