You can always buy a rice cooker to make it easier, but here's another way:

* 1 cup long grain white rice
* 1 quart pot with lid
* Salt (optional)
* Strainer
* Cold water

You don't have to have exactly 1 cup of rice, you can just pour any amount into an appropriate sized pot. But, to make things simple, measure one cup of rice into a bowl. Wash Rice by rubbing between palms and letting rice fall back into the water. Drain the water, add more and repeat until water is almost clear. If you are in a hurry, just do it once.

Drain rice by letting it fall into a strainer. If you do not have one, just carefully drain off water with your hand as a guard to keep rice from falling out of bowl.

Return rice to bowl and cover with 1/2 inch of water. You can easily measure by inserting your index finger into bowl until the tip of it touches the top of the rice. 1/2 of the first joint in your index finger is 1/2 inch. Let the rice sit in the clean water for one hour.

After an hour, drain the water from the rice. Put rice in the quart pot and add 1/2 inch of clean water. You can add a pinch of salt, if you prefer. Put the pot on the stove over medium heat (flames should not be beyond the bottom of the pot). Let the rice cook until only large bubbles show. Immediately, put lid on pot and turn flame to the lowest point. Let rice cook until it is done.

You can tell rice is done when all water is absorbed and it looks fluffy. If it is soggy, there was too much water added. At this point, just put it in the microwave on a plate to get rid of the excess. It will be sticky but not mushy.

Use a stock for extra flavour, fork half way through. i like to cook mine until it is about five minutes from done, then turn off the heat, don't take the lid off, the steam will continue to cook your rice without over doing it. And yes, one cup of rice equals one cup of water. For a lovely thai twist, try using coconut milk with just a splash of water added to it to cook the rice. mmmmm :)

I do a lot of cooking and buy a lot of appliances. The best thing I have ever bought is a rice cooker. Rinse the rise to get rid of the starch and then you simply put the rice and water in and press a button. I have lived with Asian people at university and they all had rice cookers. They are amazing.

If its watery but fully cooked u added too much water. 1 cup rice 2 cups water. Basicly double the cooking liquid to the amount of rice.bring to a boil turn heat to low Let it cook 10 minutes. Then tip the pan to the side if theres still water or stock cook a bit longer.

add water such that it comes about 1 inch above the rice level....
then cook it as u do normally....
if sometimes the rice seems watery then remove the lid and cook it for some for time till then all the water removed.

Don't add too much water... use a rice cooker instead of manually. And follow whatever instructions are on the packet of rice. For flavor you can add salt, or chicken stock.

For each cup of rice one cup of water.

Don't add so much water and let it sit covered for at least an hour.(after cooking)

Instead of water, use low salt chicken broth.

don't cook it so long. follow directions on the package
