Putting raw eggs in a smoothie- teenager?!

Question: Putting raw eggs in a smoothie- teenager?
I am a runner, I need extra protein. I don't have whey right now so I wonder if I can put in a raw egg. In my running journal it gives good recipes for things and says raw eggs,. They are the ones from the grocery store, is that okay?

In the past, it was probably safe to use raw eggs. These days, with factory farming and antibiotic use, the chance of finding an egg that is contaminated with salmonella is fairly high. 20 years ago (a la Rocky drinking raw egg shakes) you probably didn't have much to worry about. These days, I think some concern is justified. Salmonella (or other food borne disease) can set you back quite a bit physically.

You're best to cook the egg for safety, or find an alternative protein source for your smoothie.

I have known guys drinking a health shake with an egg in it...Not any of them got sick...So until you can get some protein powder I should think it would be ok...

Good luck........

Yea no problem. I used to drink orange juice with a raw egg and honey in it - never has a problem.
