Strawberry! With vanilla icing, most guys like stuff they can actually use as presents. maybe good smelling stuff or even a movie, men aren't that hard to please.

Bake some plain cakes in pretty cake cases, then decorate them with buttercream icing with food colouring in a swirly pattern and sprinkle any kind of decorations on, such as edible glitter, hearts, sprinkles, mini marshmallows etc. You can get all this from a supermarket :) these are really tasty and look amazing.. if you don't know how to make buttercream it's just butter, icing sugar and vanilla basically. There are many recipes online just search it :). Or you could make any flavoured cupcakes, such as lemon drizzle, blueberry/cranberry muffins, marble cakes, marshmallow iced cupcakes..etc. Google has all the recipes.. Good luck :)

Just a personal opinion here, cupcakes seem 'individual' to me. Why not do a heart for both of you?

A Hearty Dessert
From FamilyFun Magazine

A Hearty Dessert
Making a big impression on your little sweethearts is a piece of cake with this Valentine's Day dessert, which gets its color from strawberries and red Jell-O and its shape from two standard-size cakes.

Ingredients

* 1 18 1/4-ounce box white cake mix (plus eggs, water, and oil, as directed on box)
* 1 3-ounce box strawberry-flavored Jell-O
* 1 16-ounce package frozen sliced strawberries, thawed and drained
* 1 cup butter, softened

* 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* Red or pink candies

Instructions

1. To begin, heat the oven. Meanwhile grease and flour two 8-inch baking pans, one round and one square, as directed on the cake mix box. Add the Jell-O to the cake mix, then prepare the mix as directed on the box. Fold half of the strawberries into the batter. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake according to the package directions. Remove the cakes from the pans and allow them to cool completely on wire racks.
2. To make the frosting, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Add the remaining strawberries and beat until well combined.
3. A Hearty Dessert - Step 3 Cut the round cake in half and place the two semicircles against two sides of the square cake, as shown.
4. A Hearty Dessert - Step 4 Spread on the frosting and decorate to your heart's content with the red or pink candies.

Go to site and see photos. Happy *hearts" Day!

Red velvet with cream cheese frosting would be delicious and special for V-day! Make sure to position the cupcakes in a heart shape or if you really want to be creative, line up the cupcakes on a cake board in a rectangle shape (be sure to dab some frosting under each to hold them in place) and frost them all together like a cake. Then try to order either on eBay or at your local cake shop an edible image of the two of you from a special memory!!

There IS a cupcake site that answers all my quesitons!! Cupcake design, recipes, decorations, and all that...I think you might want to refer to it.
