Making chocolate brownies into chilli chocolate brownies?!

Question: Making chocolate brownies into chilli chocolate brownies?
I have a recipe for chocolate brownies which I am going to attempt this weekend.

However, I'd like to spice them up a little by making them into chilli chocolate brownies. Does anyone out there know how much chilli I should put in so that it's discernible without blowing everyone's heads off?

Thanks!

Use 1 teaspoon of cayenne powder. The spiciness really complements the cocoa. Regular chili powder is not spicy at all, just aromatic. So, if you want non-spicy, use that.

Here's a recipe that I've used. It's quite good.

Mexican Brownies Recipe
Ingredients:
One brownie mix, homemade or commercial, prepared according to directions
1/2 to 1 tsp. cayenne (to taste)
1 teaspoon ground Mexican cinnamon
Two squares of Lindt Excellence Chili Chocolate or other commercial chili chocolate, broken into chunks

Directions:
Add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne and 1 teaspoon cinnamon to brownie mix and stir. Taste and add additional cayenne to taste.
Pour brownie mixture into pan according to instructions. When mixture is spread in pan, sprinkle chunks of chili chocolate over the top of the brownies until the top is covered with a layer of chili chocolate.
Bake brownie mixture according to instructions and enjoy when cool enough to eat.

I made ancho chili and mexican cinnamon meringue cookies once. They were SOOO GOOODDD!!! I suggest you use the smoked, dried chilies because they have a much deeper and more rich taste to them that will go great with the chocolate. Given that you remove the seeds, you can easily add two whole ones to one brownie recipe.

Sounds like a stellar idea. Good luck!
