Answers:
Not to be contrary, but potatoes are not all the same. Red potatoes are considered waxy potatoes and while you CAN mash them (peel, dice, boil them. Mash them and add cream salt pepper and butter) I would ROAST them instead as that si a better application for waxy potatoes.
Quarter them. add them to a bowl add 2 tbs oil salt, pepper, and some Rosemary or garlic and put them into a 400 degree oven for about 45 minutes or until they're done (tender). GL
You can leave the skins on or remove them it is your choice.
I would quarter them if they are medium size, halve them if they are a bit smaller. Important thing is all the pieces are about the same size.
Boil or steam until tender.
Heat some milk.
Drain your potatoes.
Add butter, 2 to 3 tablespoons is good.
Add some milk and mash. If necessary add a bit more milk. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Do not use a mixer or processor to mash the potatoes or you will end up with paste. And red potatoes are a lot waxier than other potatoes so it is easy to get that "glue" like consistency.
Just Me:
I wouldn't peel them (unless they are in bad shape)
You cut them up to cook them faster if you leave them whole you will have to turn the heat down, and take longer.
I like to under cook them a little, and add some onion near the end, lots of butter and a splash of milk
I make mashed potatoes almost every night .. Here's what you do :)
Peel and cut your potatoes into 2 equal parts each..
Put them into a pot of water, boil it.
Poke them with a fork after a while, if they are soft, well, then they are done.
Drain the pot.
Add milk, a little bit of butter, salt and pepper.
And you're good to go. Enjoy!
Red potatoes are just like any other potatoes I wash them cut them in fours sprinkle olive oil over them and oregano, salt pepper and mix them up then put them on a cookie sheet skin side down and bake in an oven at 350 until brown and soft .yummmmmmmmmy
chop them into quarters....then oven dry them for about 1/2 hour.....then do your mashing.....
