Here are a few suggestions:
1) For raspberry icing you should heat your jam a little and strain it to remove all seeds. I think that adding this jam will make your icing too sweet and sloppy. Try using a raspberry essence- this is what I always use http://bakingpleasures.com.au/p9031/rasp…

2) You need to beat your butter until it is almost white (or a lot lighter than when you started). Then beat in small amounts of your sugar at a time (1/4 cups) until you get the taste you want.

3) I never use milk, it can make your icing too runny and in warm weather spoil. I add a little water, like a teaspoon at a time at the end of beating the sugar and butter. THe amount of vanilla you've added would make the consistency smooth also.

4) Are you using pure icing sugar or confectioners sugar, don't use icing mixture cos you'll get that powdery taste too.

Good luck, I hope this info helps :)

Butter cream is very sweet, and very buttery. It is what it is Perhaps you'd like a raspberry glaze better?
