Butter comes from cream, not just milk, so just milk won't get you any. With cream, all you have to do is put it in a jar and shake it. It will froth up then suddenly go "clunk" and the butterfat will separate from the whey and you have butter. you drain it through cheesecloth and press it with a fork on a slanted board to drain out all the watery stuff. Then salt it a little if you want, and voila! Butter.
