Is covering food being microwaved with a napkin safe?!

Question: Is covering food being microwaved with a napkin safe?
I was trying to make a quick brocoli casserole dinner since I got to go to bed soon, so the instructions said to microwave the brocolli half way with a napki , then remove it once you put the cheese on the brocolli. Is microwaving it being covered with a napkin for 2 and a half minutes safe?or should I throw it out?

As long as the napkin doesn't contain any dyes or bleach, it's probably ok.

We usually cover our foods in the microwave with a paper towel to prevent splattering. I would advise against covering with a napkin since it is too thin and food can easily stick to it unless you make a tent with it. I would not cook with a plate on top as that would change your cooking time.

As long as the napkin won't seep anything into the food, like dye or chemicals, it's fine.

Why not put another plate over it, that way you'll trap the heat and cook it faster.
