When you make a red velvet cake, what flavor icing do you put on it?!

Question: When you make a red velvet cake, what flavor icing do you put on it?
I'm looking up recipes online, and found one with cream cheese icing. Is that a good combo? I've never made (or eaten) red velvet cake before. I want to make it for valentines day!

omg, yes cream cheese icing is the best on red velvet...butter cream is tooooo sweet for this particular cake.

i love red velvet cake

Cream Cheese Frosting:

1 - 8 ounce (227 grams) cream cheese, room temperature

1 - 8 ounce (227 grams) tub of Mascarpone cheese, room temperature

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup (115 grams) confectioners' (icing or powdered) sugar, sifted

1 1/2 (360 ml) cups cold heavy whipping cream (double cream) (35-40% butterfat)

Cream Cheese Frosting: In the bowl of your electric mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese and mascarpone cheese until smooth. Add the vanilla and confectioners sugar and beat until smooth. Using the whisk attachment, gradually add the heavy cream and whip until the frosting is thick enough to spread. Add more sugar or cream as needed to get the right consistency.

Cream cheese icing is the only way to go! It's really good. You'll like it. It doesn't actually taste like you're eating cream cheese on top of a cake. The flavor is a mixture between cream cheese and vanilla icing.

Yeah usually it is cream cheese fronting. I myself don't like the frosting but i know many people that do.

I prefer vanilla buttercream

red velvet

Plain white Cream Cheese Icing.

Cream Cheese is the best.....

Happy baking..................
