Make him drink a lot of water I mean really a lot like all the time, it will go away faster, you should google some recipes...
If he hasn't vomited in an hour or two, I would let him have some toast. Most people will say "no butter", but if you make it super light it shouldn't be an issue. A few plain unsalted crackers are good.
CHICKEN BROTH! I cannot stress this enough. I personally find it very helpful to buy the pre-made low sodium stuff and I will literally put it in a mug, heat it up, and then drink it very, very slowly.
Also, jello should be okay..especially if it's sugar free.
REMEMBER: Do not let him eat or drink anything until about an hour or two of vomiting/diarrhea...this will cause him to just get more sick. He should, however, drink lots and lots of water, very slowly.

The BRAT diet works well to calm the stomach.
B--banana
R--rice
A-apple
T--tea and toast. No butter on the toast but jelly would be OK.
He could drink Gatorade to replace electrolytes, if he has had vomiting and/or diarrhea. Some regular coke, pepsi and ginger-ale is OK too.
Don't push foods as it can make his symptoms return.
when he hasn't felt ill for a day then add a food like yogurt to the above diet and then go to a light diet he can tolerate without symptoms.
I would most def. get out the blender .. get some stonyfield farms yogurt and a couple bundles of bananas.. rice dream milk (non dairy) .. and make him shakes they are super filling and bland .. the yogurt restores the good bacteria .. the bananas are great to be binding in the body to slow down all the gross activity from the poisoning ..
and then you can always make him white rice.. plain chicken with some sea salt and garlic..
oatmeal with brown sugar for breakfast is good..
any type of fresh vegetables .. with a lil bit of balsamic vinegar..
Soup and salads. You can add a little twist, like make him a fruit salad sprinkled with pomegranate and some liquid, like soda or juice or lemonade, and you can add crushed ice cubes...make him some lemonade or something. You can make him some tomato soup or chicken soup, and-----if his diet allows it-----make it a tiny bit spicy. Good luck, and I hope your dad feels better!
I got food poisoning years ago and the last thing I wanted to do was eat anything...So maybe some soup and crackers...Why not just ask him what he might like and fix it for him...
Good luck....................
homemade vegetable soup, crusty rolls with margarine, salad.
your best bet would be mild broth-based soups
chicken noodle, etc
