Dr Pepper Chocolate Cake- -- Yes or No?!

Question: Dr Pepper Chocolate Cake- -- Yes or No?
I was thinking of making this for my dad, as his birthday was just the other day, and I only heard about this now...

But the recipe is something like this:

1 box choc cake mix
1 box choc pudding
3 eggs
3/4 cup oil

mix all ingredients on high for 30 seconds, on medium for 2 minutes

Bake in oven at 350F for 45-55 minutes.

I was thinking of then drizzling it with a creamcheese/dr. pepper frosting (using my own ingenuity to create that).

Lol, I know, it sounds weird, but I want to give it a try... I made BBQ sauce with Dr. Pepper once and it was great...

One thing missing in your recipe at the top is 1 can or bottle of Dr Pepper!! Must have this necessary amount of liquid replacing the water called for. Can use Coke or any other soda or even wine you want. But must have that amount of lliquid.

Yeah, use the Dr Pepper, you can save that much from the bottle if you wish or if you are drinking it while cooking, just pour some in measure cup to use in your icing.

I prefer gingerale!! ok! so both of us are slightly weird as is my grandson!! He just hasn't thought of using the gingerale or ginger beer in cake yet!

The BBQ sauce with Dr. Pepper would work great but unfortunately it won't work with the cream cheese. The Dr. Pepper is a liquid and will just make the cream cheese watery. You would have to increase the quantity of powdered sugar to soak up the liquid which would then make the frosting very very sweet because of all the sugar in the Dr. Pepper as well.

Sorry. You could use a tablespoonful of it in place of vanilla but it wouldn't supply much flavor in that quantity. You could put it in the cake in place of some of the water but again, the sugar in the cola and the sugar in the cake mix would make a pretty sweet cake.

Hope that helps.

I would suggest using regular Dr. Pepper and simmer it to reduce it by abour half so it's like a syrup. When the cake comes out of the oven and is still hot, poke holes in the cake with a chopstick and pour about half the syrup on it so it soaks in. Use the other half to make your cream cheese frosting/glaze. Hope this helps1

I have a slightly different suggestion...

A very simple recipe for a Coca Cola cake where you could replace the cola with Dr Pepper perhaps?

That way you've made a scratch baked cake and you can have the pleasure of that knowledge as well.

Diet/caff. free should be o.k. don't add too much Dr. P to cream cheese, sweeten cream cheese with powdered sugar. Try making this in a 9 x 13 pan and use the end of a wooden spoon and make holes for the icing to drain into cake, make two bowls, some less runny/thinner that other. Use thicker on top. Also, this is good with a yellow cake mix and use chocolate pudding in the same way. Yummy.

Your dad must love Dr. Pepper! It sounds interesting, for sure. But, before you make a huge batch and cover your yummy cake, make a small batch of the frosting to test out! Then you wouldn't have wasted much time, effort, or money if you end up not liking it. Good luck, baker! :)

oh my gosh, that sounds DELICIOUS!!
please make the cake and let us know how amazing it is!! :]
(and then possibly put the full recipe on here for us??)

I love dr. pepper, and cake! and chocolate :]

That sounds disgusting.
Although I suppose Americans are known for their disgustingly sweet candies and what not...

Im not sure that I would eat this but try it and then post if it was good.
