How long to broil a steak to get it well done?!

Question: How long to broil a steak to get it well done?
My recipe says 6 minutes per side for a medium rare steak. I read somewhere online that an extra six minutes should be added to get the steak well done. Is this correct information and if so is that 6 minutes total or 6 minutes per side?

Broiling can make a steak really tough, you're better off doing it in a non-stick pan that's as hot as you can get it. Put a little oil on the steak, in the pan, and cook till it's almost as well done as you need. It'll take about a couple of mins each side for med/rare. Then turn off the heat, cover with foil, get the plate ready and serve. It's best to rest it for 5 mins after cooking.

Using a really hot pan seals in the juices, as does resting after, so it'll be nice and tender.

First you will want to sear the steak in a frying pan with a bit of oil on high heat. Sear each side for roughly one minute. I would say to broil it for around 5 - 6 mins on each side. Searing seals in the juices, which is important, especially for a well done steak. When it is done, let it rest for 3 mins, to let the juices distribute themselves. That will make it more tender and juicy.

For well done you can broil anywhere between your 12 minutes a side to 30 minutes a side and it will make no difference in the taste of the steak. Once it is well done it is not Done Well.

over 12 minutes and it does take some finnese as in you cant leave it alone on fire ,,,,it;ll burn,,,,it is fairly acurate information

it all depends on how thick the steak is...a thicker steak will take longer of course. a one inch thick steak should take about 6 minutes each side for well done.

way to DESTROY a good steak.
you should never cook a steak well done. medium or at the most medium-well is the limit before turning it into treebark

depends on the steak ..should be 6-7 mins
