Cover it with COLD water. Don't plunge it into hot water or it will crack. Bring it to the boil, turn it down to a simmer and cook for a further 9-10 minutes.....

Enjoy...

Place eggs in cold water. Heat to a boil and boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to sit in hot water for 5 more minutes.. Pour off hot water and roll eggs around in pan to crack the shells, then cover with ice water (yes, leave some ice in it). The ice water will pull the sulfurous compounds out so your yolks won't turn green.

There is no one best answer. I cover with tap water and turn stove top on high. Once the water boils I set the timer for 10 minutes. I then remove from the heat, dump the hot water, add ice and run under cold water to stop the cooking process. It prevents the yolk from getting that funny green tint.

A friend of mine brings her water to a boil and turns the burner off and adds the eggs and lets them sit for 20 minutes. That seems to work equally as well.

It's hard-cooked, not hard boiled. (The water boils, not the egg). You'll get a hundred different answers.

Let eggs sit at room temp for 20 - 30 mins. cover with water, bring to a boil (about 6 mins.) then turn to lowest heat and simmer 15 mins.

about 10 minutes, you can check them by taking the egg out and spinning it on the counter if it wobbles and stops spinning it is not done if it spins with ease it is considered boiled.

I just do cold water and eggs in a pan, bring to a boil and time for 15 minutes. Drain and cover with cold water and a few ice cubes. Works like a charm.

Place eggs in cold water in pot. Bring to boil. As soon as it boils, remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes.
