Is "Dry Sherry" the same as "Sherry Vinegar"?!

Question: Is "Dry Sherry" the same as "Sherry Vinegar"?
A recipe I'm making calls for "dry sherry". Unfortunately, all the grocery stores I've visited only sell "sherry vinegar". Is "dry sherry" and "sherry vinegar" the same thing? If not, can they be used interchangeable without affecting the taste, substantially?

No it is not the same. The Sherry Vinegar will add a definitely sour taste to your meal, while the dry sherry will add a more wine like flavor to your meal. If you have any kind of wine, red or white, on hand go with that, otherwise don't use anything at all.

Dry Sherry is wine. If your grocery store does not sell wine, you will need to go to a liquor store. BTW, there is also 'Cooking Sherry." I do not recommend the use of "Cooking Sherry or any other "Cooking Wines." They contain lots of salt and other additives which make them unsuitable for drinking. While I don't propose one should use expensive wines for cooking, one should never cook with a wine that is undrinkable.

Sherry Vinegar is a vinegar made from sherry wine.

No. They are two different things and there will be a noticeable difference in the taste. The vinegar will be much more acidic than the sherry. Try the oriental foods aisle and look for cooking sherry. That should be a good substitute for the dry sherry as most of them are fairly dry. If you can't find cooking sherry, try dry vermouth.

sherry vinegar has salt in it to make it not drinkable! Only use drinkable alcoholic beverages. Do not use "cooking sherry" "cooking wine" "wine vinegar" or sherry vinegar stuff. It is incredibly nasty.

the taste will be affected because of the amount of salt in the cooking or vinegar spirits.

No they are not the same. Dry sherry is a type of wine whereas Sherry Vinegar is a type of vinegar, I don't think you would like taste as a substitute.

No! Dry sherry can be found in the liquor store. NEVER use vinegar OR cooking wine from the supermarket. I use An inexpensive Sherry that is great for cooking. The brand name is Fairbanks.

No,not the same.
