Cooks, how long does it take to be comfortable being a Cook?!

Question: Cooks, how long does it take to be comfortable being a Cook?
I'm 16 and this is my first job, tomorrow will be my 4th day as a Cook at a restaurant. I didn't start as a dishwasher or anything, and I have no job experience. How long will it take for me to be comfortable and be able to handle it on my own? Or rather, how long did it take you? honestly it seems like an extremely hectic and stressful job. I've been doing alright but I've only done 2 days of cooking and they already want me to try and handle each ticket by myself tomorrow.

Anyway...how long did it take you to be comfortable as a cook?

There is no one right answer to how long it will take you to be comfortable on a new job. That depends entirely on you.

The fact that they want you to try taking tickets on your own on your third day is a good sign that you are progressing well. I haven't done a lot of restaurant cooking but I have managed restaurants and I think you should be proud of the progress you are making! Take it one ticket at a time, try not to panic and don't be afraid to ask questions. Best of luck to you.

About a week in general. Learning where everything is, how the owners/managers want things done, etc. It gets easier, don't let doing your own tickets freak you out. Next thing you know you'll be getting faster and reading 8 tickets out.

I am not a cook but my father was a chef for many years and I spent a lot of time in kitchens with him. It depends on you, and it depends on the restaurant. It takes a couple months to get comfortable at any job, and my dad used to always say working in a kitchen alone much less with tons of other employees is completely nerve wracking! It's only been 2 days... I would definitely give it more time. Be confident in your abilities and be excited that you will learn so much experience from this job. Just do your best and eventually you will fit right in and you'll know exactly what you're doing. Good luck sweetie!
