Am I the only one that peels mushrooms?!

Question: Am I the only one that peels mushrooms?
Sometimes if they don't look too grimy, I rinse and dry them, but not often.

It does appear that you might very well be the only one (or one of a very few) that peels mushrooms. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If it makes you more comfortable to eat them peeled, then peel them. I once knew someone who washed baking potatoes with dishwashing liquid and hot water before cooking them. It just made her feel that all the dirt was really removed, and she could be more comfortable eating them.

I always rinse and dry my mushrooms, unless I buy the pre-sliced packages.

But when I do get whole mushrooms, when I go to eat them ( after they are rinsed and dried ), I peel them, and eat the peel :P hehe. It tastes all the same, nothing's going to hurt you.

Most mushrooms don't need to be peeled but I have seen cans of peeled Straw mushrooms in the Asian section at the grocery store. The best way to clean fresh mushrooms is to brush the dirt off with a small brush or a damp paper towel.

all mushrooms need are to be wiped down with a damp paper towel. you are not supposed to rinse them because they get water logged. i have never even heard of someone peeling a mushroom. weird.

dont peel them it is a waste of the best part of them just wipe them with a clean wet cloth and cook or fry them * cheers*

Oh. Wow.
Learn something new everyday.
I thought that mushrooms had to be peeled.

My mom used to peel her mushrooms, but then I learned you don't have to.

I don't peel mine, they're just the regular kind not fancy ones. Possibly I would peel if they were to be eaten raw.

Probably. I don't peel mine.
