Is it OK to freeze butter and cream cheese?!

Question: Is it OK to freeze butter and cream cheese?
I have a lot of butter and cream cheese that is going to spoil if I leave it in the fridge too long...
would it work if I were to keep the butter and cream cheese in the freezer
then thaw when I'm ready to use?

Answers:

yes you can. however, frozen cream cheese... even when thawed out. has a different texture. its a little bit grainy. so be careful in what you use it in after its been frozen. it still tastes the same though.

Yes, you can freeze butter and cream cheese. Anyone who has been to Costco or Sam's Club can attest to the wisdom of this method when the only way they sell most products is by the metric ton. Just put the stuff in aluminum foil or a freezer bag and transfer it to the fridge when you need it, though commercially produced butter does have a lot of preservatives in it and will last quite a while in the refrigerator. They should be okay in the freezer for 6 months or so, if properly sealed. Don't forget to write the date on the package so you know how long it's been in there, too.

We keep our freezer pretty cold so the icemaker keeps up with our son who is some sort of eating machine who will only drink ice water, and that also helps keep things fresh for longer periods.

I always buy extra butter when it is on sale, and freeze it. If it is not sealed well it will pick up odors from other foods during long term storage, I am told, though I have never experienced this.
I have never frozen cream cheese, but the packaging seems well suited for freezing.

butter yes, but if you want to use it in a day or hours, then don't, put it into the refrigerator
creamcheese, refrigerator

They will be fine. If left a long time the texture may change slightly but they will be fine for cooking. That's a good excuse to make cheesecake.

Yes you can freeze both quite well. Just make sure you double wrap it.

Butter is. I buy in quanity when it's on sale to have for baking. Not sure about cream cheese

some things are edible but get a little strange.
