How do you properly remove dowels in a cake?!

Question: How do you properly remove dowels in a cake?
I'm making a 3 tiered cake for a bachelorette party. I want to dowel the cake with wooden rods and then put the cakes on cardboard to support each layer. I will also be putting fondant on the cakes. I know how to put the dowels in the cake, but I don't know how to take them out. I need simple instructions for how to take these dowels out once the cake is at the location. Also, I will not be at the bachelorette party, so I need to be able to relay these instructions to my friend.

We just tell clients to cut round them. Good luck

I agree with Lilly, you would cut around them and remove them as the cake is cut. I usually place something (flower, leaf, etc) directly above the dowels so when the cake is cut for guests, I can keep the slices neat.

Hope that helps!
