Does cream cheese frosting need to be refrigerated?!

Question: Does cream cheese frosting need to be refrigerated?
I'm making red velvet cupcakes to bring to school and I want to frost them with a homemade cream cheese frosting recipe I have. But does cream cheese frosting have to be refrigerated, or does all the sugar in the frosting make it shelf-stable?

If you are taking them to school on Monday...and making them today I would say yes.

Good luck......

Personally, I would refrigerate the frosting because the cream cheese is uncooked. Cream Cheese In a cake however, and the other dairy products are cooked, so they have a shelf-life without refrigeration, however, products like cream cheese can quickly go bad when not kept cold. I hope this helps.

Yes it should be refrigerated, especially since it's homemade frosting. I've left a store bought red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting out but with a lid for a day and it was ok, but just to be on the safe side for you since it's homemade, cover and refrigerate.

I would definitely refrigerate it! Most of the time if it has the word cheese in it, it should be refregerated.

Good luck, sounds delicious!

yes, unless you want it to taste funny. I would suggest putting them in the fridge in the teacher's lounge.

Yes i think so
