Why don't you start thinking about making vegetarian meals for dinner some nights?

you can stock up on frozen broccoli and jarred alfredo sauce and make broccoli alfredo some nights
you can get beans and salsa and corn chips and make veggie taco salad
you can get a bag of california mix, add cut up potatoes and make a roasted vegetable medley
you can get stir fry veggies and make a stir fry

there are a lot of possibilities

A good pantry should have a variety of herbs & spices. Basil, Sage, Oregano, Bay Leaves, Black Pepper, Red Pepper (Cayenne) Chili Powder, Cumin, Garlic & Onion powder/salt (your preference), Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger. Ex Virgin Olive Oil, Canola oil, Sesame or Peanut oil. Canned tomatoes & tomato sauce, canned fish (tuna, kippers, salmon). Brown & White Sugar, Flour, Corn starch, Baking powder, Baking Soda, Cocoa, Salt, Rice, Noodles, Dry beans, peas, & barley. Bag nuts, bag raisins, Oatmeal, Flavored (garlic & herb or Italian)bread crumbs, Vinegar, onions, potatoes, canned mushrooms (fresh are better). In freezer: frozen veggies, frozen pastry dough, frozen green & red peppers (buy fresh when cheap, clean, cut up, put in freezer bag). Frozen fruit (bananas, strawberries, etc. Again, buy fresh & freeze.

With these staples, you'll be able to shop every week or so for your fresh foods & have many choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Just find a few interesting recipes. You mentioned steak, so get a good A1 sauce & good barbecue sauce and some interesting salad creams.

Hi Humble, Not knowing the type of food you like or will eat, I would suggest that when you have some free time you could try setting out a weeks worth of recipes and from that write out the items you need to shop for. I try to have as much in the store cupboard as I can with a little bit of thought make up a few meals at least. There are many sites that you can get grocery list ideas from which you can pick and choose from. here is a site that I havent had a proper look at yet but looks promising - http://www.easydinnerrecipes.co.uk/store…
There are bound to be some if this is not for you or from where you come from. Anothe site I use quite often is bbc.co.uk
If you keep tins of tuna meats like corned beef dried goods such as pasta etc. you will always have something to hand. The same goes if you stock up your freezer with either ready made products (for speed ) or preferably double the quantities of what you are cooking and portion off half and freeze for another time. this can work out cheaper in the long term. Try and sort out what dried herbs and spices you like and keep some on hand in your store cupboard but don't buy these in large quantities as they do not keep well and will deteriorate after time and just take up room. I'm not a great lover of tinned vegetables I'd rather have fresh or in a push frozen. Although i will keep tins of kidney beans for chilli or chick peas so they dont have to be soaked overnight. Lentils and barley are good staples to have as well as rice etc
I hope this helps, all the best. Rab
Edit here is another site with a better list. Rab

Well, do rare simple meals, Go grocery shopping get a lot of stuff (meats, spaghetti, pasta, soup etc.) and store it up. And divide your meals equally. You always should have stuff you eat regularly like eggs, bacon, sausage etc. If you have kids get dessert's and healthy snacks , milk and cereal, oatmeal etc. Those are things you need daily.
