Answers:

You need to make a tight pile of coals and get a good fire going, and then wait for them to burn down to hot coals. You don't cook on them while there is fire.

1. Make sure the charcoal you are planning to use in your outdoor BBQ grill is 100 percent dry. Wet charcoal will produce smoke, increase the risk of fires and make the cooking and lighting process much more difficult.
2. Place the charcoal on your BBQ grill. Make sure you have enough to cover the full base of the grill or to create two even piles (if you are cooking with indirect heat). If you are cooking a large quantity of meat or several types of food (corn, veggies and meat, for example), light enough charcoal so you can distribute it into different piles later on.
3. Start by creating a small pile of charcoal in the center of the grill. Try to make sure all the charcoal is piled up together, or you run the risk of missing some coals, which can result in uneven cooking and heat.
4. Pour lighter fluid over the coals and wait a few seconds for it to be absorbed. This will allow for more even heating and prevent flare-ups later on.
5. Light the charcoal and let it burn for at least 20 minutes before placing the food on the grill. Depending on the amount of charcoal, the weather and the size of your grill, it may take up to an hour for the charcoal to become white/ashy enough to be ready for cooking.

I actually use barber hair to start mine up. You can usually get bags of it from any beauty salon and theyre glad to be rid of it. A local barber actually pays me to cart the stuff away. Start by taking two large handfulls of hair, placing it in your grille an sitting 6 to 8 pieces of your favorite charcoal on top. Then light-off. The hair will go up fast and hot thereby igniting the charcoal. Once this is going good add a pound or so of charcoal. Let it burn for a while until the coals begin turning white. By this time the hair will be long gone also. Then you're ready to cook.

you mean charcoal and not gas? You make a pile of charcoal and dose it with lighter fluid, make it decently wet. light it up and it burns pretty good for a couple minutes, enough to get the charcoal burning, The charcoal doesn,t burn with flame, it just gets red hot (you won't see any flame). Once the charcoal is started, spread the coals out flat and off you go.

If it's a gas BBQ, you gotta turn the gas on and light it. you adjust the flame by how much gas you give.

Be careful when lighting the charcoals with the fluid (don,t get fluid on your clothes unless you want to burn too) and never add fluid once you started the pile. The fluid burns fast and the fire can run up the stream to the can and booom!

With a gas BBQ, make sure the top is up (open) when you light it and don't let the gas build up inside before lighting or you might have a big flare up (if you do it with the top closed, you could have an explosion).

it is fire, after all. be nice to it and it will be nice to you.

You don;t want to cook over the coals On fire. You want them to catch then burn down a bit and use the heat from that. Strait fire is To hot.
