You can't use salad dressing for cake, but you can use real mayonnaise

2. In large bowl, with electric mixer on low speed, beat cake mix, Hellmann's or Best Foods Real Mayonnaise, water, eggs and cinnamon 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping sides occasionally, 2 minutes. Pour into prepared pans.
3. Bake 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. On wire rack, cool 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely. Sprinkle, if desired, with confectioners sugar or fill and frost.
*Or, prepare cake mix as above in 13 X 9-inch baking pan and bake 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

My mother back in the 1960's made a cake with a can of tomato soup in it, it tasted like a funky carrot cake, using Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip as a added moisture component is fine, but they can be tasted if your not careful, not the vinegar so much but the mustard and sugar in them.

I use applesauce, oil, egg whites alone to make my cakes moister, even fruit juices will help.

You can actually use either one, the taste may vary slightly but you'll get a rich, moist cake no matter which you choose. You can even use sour cream!

The salad dressing has some spices in it that will alter the taste of the cake so use mayo.

Use plain Mayo; salad dressings usually have more seasonings!

Definitely Mayo. Salad dressing is has a weird taste not meant for cakes. Fruit sauces/jam will work too

apple sauce works great.
never heard of using mayo or salad dressing.
