It depends on the origin of the recipe! A European, Candian and Australian cup measurement is 250ml. An American one is just under 237ml = 8 fl ounces. A British cup is 284ml = 10 fl ounces. Also remember that USA pints differ from British ones. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_wei… for more detailed info
8 oz. is a cup. You actually need a measuring cup, a cup with markings telling you how much liquid you are putting in it. They can be purchased at almost any store, walmart, target, dollar general, etc. and they are not expensive. Most coffee cups are NOT 8 oz. so do not ever use one to measure with. Good luck, hope this helps.
You need to buy a 'cup measurement' in a cookery store. It is a set measurement and important if you want to do some proper cooking, especially baking.
We in the states use volume measurements in our recipes instead of weight. A cup is 8 liquid ounces. It is also half a pint (you know a pint is the amount of beer in a glass at the pub).
4 tablespoons make 1/4 cup, so a cup is 16 level tablespoons.
Just buy a cup measure, and measuring spoons. You really cannot approximate with tablewear and teacups.
you have at the middle of the page a calculator for cup

Cups all vary in size, so no weight per cup can ever be accurate.
