Grits ~ Now what do I with this stuff?!

Question: Grits ~ Now what do I with this stuff?
So I can make the basic recipe but what can be added to the yellow mush, (oh I weep for cream-of-wheat!).
How can I make the yellow mush flavorful & not just adequate, (barely).

Grits with cheddar cheese and bacon, along with artichoke hearts and other seasonings.
Ingredients:

* 8 slices of bacon
* 3 cups chicken broth
* 1 cup water
* 1 cup quick grits
* 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
* 2 tablespoons sour cream
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (more or less, to taste)
* 1 can (14 to 16 ounces) artichoke hearts, chopped, or use frozen cooked artichoke hearts
* 2 eggs, well beaten

Preparation:
Heat oven to 350° F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.

In a large skillet over medium heat, fry bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels; crumble.

In a large saucepan, combine broth and water. Bring to a boil. Slowly stir in grits. Reduce heat to low; cover and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.

Remove grits from heat. Add the bacon and remaining ingredients; stir well. Pour into the baking dish. Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes, or until set.
Serves 8.

your obviously not from the south the most common thing to add to grits is butter salt pepper cheese and jelly not all together and dont try adding a ton af stuff to "enhance" the flavor you are just gonna screw up what is a good thing. they are fine plain. thats how they are supposed to be eaten. the only thing acceptable to add to grits are butter, cheese, salt, pepper, and jelly

I am from south Alabama (we eat alotta grits) and I put cheese, salt and pepper. Some people put butter salt and pepper. Just depends on what you like.

it's just itty-bitty chunks of corn...roll hot dogs in it and make corn dogs.

A lot of people add cheese to it. Some people just add salt and pepper. Check out www.allrecipes.com to see if any recipes entice you.
