Have you corned your beef yet?!

Actually, I quit doing that years ago when I found a real, honest to goodness German butcher in my very own area. He does specialty cuts and the like for various holidays so now I just order it from him. I found it rather bittersweet to find one here as it seems to be a dying art in Germany yet there he is, his shop wedged between a tattoo parlor and a nudie bar. Gotta love California.

This year, when I finally have the time to do some serious cooking, corned beef is off the menu, darling - I don't eat beef and the offspring has gone completely vegetarian.

This year, I'm making a kind of vegetable version of my standard chicken pot pie, but instead of a crust, I'm going to top it with mashed potatoes, like a shepherd's pie, just to mix it up a little.

If that kid goes vegan, I'm going to just bang my head against the wall.
