Bread bowls are pretty cheap and always go over well. You can fill them with any kind of dip (just pick a cheap dip) and if you bake your own bread bowls they are really really cheap and believe it or not super easy (I make them all the time). Pigs in a blanket are pretty cheap, little deep fried things are pretty cheap pizza rolls, etc as long as you shop for the cheap brands. Go to a store like BJs or Sams Club or even shop at like a Save a Lot where you can get all kinds of cheap things. Deviled eggs are also cheap to make. hmmm...bread sticks maybe...maybe cheap brands of chicken nuggets on a stick alternating with biscuits and butter to dip them in. Like a chicken and biscuit cabob type deal? I don't know just throwing some ideas out there besides the whole veggies and cheese and crackers and all that.
Pitas cut into wedges (Greek pitas are thicker and very tasty, especially if you warm them up a bit in the microwave)
Served with hummus, which you can buy or make yourself (you should have a food processor if you are going to make it)
Fresh vegetables with a small bowl of Ranch salad dressing for dipping.
Fresh strawberries and other fruit, with a small bowl of vanilla yogurt for dipping.
veggies & dip (make your own dip)
cookies (make your own)
crackers n cheese
banana loaf (make your own)
Blocks of different cheeses with a toothpick put throw it, crackers, slices of peporonni. That's all I can think of good luck
