What kind of fruits do YOU typically buy when you go grocery shopping?!

Question: What kind of fruits do YOU typically buy when you go grocery shopping?
I just want to gage what types of fruit people (mainly families) generally purchase. Gage the most common fruits purchased and eaten etc.

Also how often do you buy fruits? Do you go to grocery stores (which ones), or farmer's markets, or harvest your own from your backyard / orchards such as cherry picking places etc.

Any advice and info helps and is highly appreciated.. and the more you say and describe your ways of obtaining and eating fruits helps more. :D THANKS!

Answers:

Red apples, oranges and bananas.

I use frozen mixed berries from Costco in my oatmeal every morning. I prefer to eat watermelon, cherries and peaches, but in the winter I have to eat apples, oranges and bananas. I stick to whatever is cheapest and in season at the time. I used to go to the Farmer's Market every week, a couple of blocks away from where I live, however after I got stuck with a bag of old oranges (fresh ones on the top to fool me) for about 3 times what the grocery store charges, I discontinued that practice. I eat fresh fruit at least 4 times a day, so I have to buy it about once a week.

We always have bananas and apples (red and green). Lately we've been buying lots of oranges and occasionally we buy cantaloupe. When fruits like strawberries, clementines, peaches, and watermelon are in season, we buy them.

Cantelopes (I have a dish every day, fights colon cancer)
Bananas ( I like them very ripe)
tangerines ( Clementines when in season)
tomatoes ( Usually Romas)

Grocery store

Banana's
Gala Apples
Cantaloupe

When in Season
Watermelon
Strawberries
Grapes
Oranges

Grocery store (except oranges I have a tree)

Mango, watermelon, kiwi, lychee.

I live in california and the fruit is absolutely wonderful here. It really depends however on the time of year, season, etc. Right now, strawberries are in season (very early this year) and they are GORGEOUS! I buy as many as the store will limit and what we don't eat before they start to turn we freeze for smoothies. I slice them and just sprinkle a little splenda on them for breakfast. Also, our apples are super yummy and this past season our citrus (oranges, grapefruit, etc.) was outstanding... best year in a LONG time. Valencia oranges are what is grown where I live and these are super for juicing... but the navel oranges were just as good. Also, cuties (clementine tangerines) have been great and cheap. In the summer I really enjoy the summer fruits like watermelon, plums, nectarines and peaches... my kids don't like peaches because of the fuzz so I use those mostly for desserts or smoothies. Finally, I really enjoy a good kiwi but I get sick of them easily so I only buy them a few times a year, when they are in season.

Fruit is something that is a regular part of my family's diet and we eat it daily. My daughter loves granny smith green apples with just a tad bit of salt to cut the sour. My son enjoys bananas, my husband likes all fruits but mostly pineaple, and of course who can forget the grapes... another phenomenal fruit grown in california.

We are so lucky here... the fruit alone is worth the occassional earthquake... as long as it's not the big one. ;-)
