Would you make something for a potluck that you were not invited to?!

Question: Would you make something for a potluck that you were not invited to?
My husband's work is having a Christmas potluck on December 13th, which is a Saturday (not one of their regular work days). He told me last night that the lady in charge of organizing the whole thing has been apparently asking everyone to have their wives make something for them to bring. (He works with all guys, except for the 2 ladies in the office). Family is not invited, just employees.

I personally find it kind of rude to ask when we're not even invited. Would YOU do it?

Answers:

If you are not invited, I wouldn't make ANYTHING...except a note saying that the wives should have been invited! :) I agree, It is very rude to have people (wives) that are not even going to be going to it to make something that they won't even be able to enjoy. Don't make anything.

That WAS a rather rude way of going about it. She should've asked the guys to bring something and if the wife (out of the goodness of her heart) chose to make something, great. If not, he could bring a bag of chips or a bucket of chicken and be done with it.

I've never once gotten to go to any of my husband's work potlucks but since I don't get much opportunity to do it, I like to show off my skills by sending goodies along anyway.

I don't blame you for being upset, though.

Hi!

I think it's very odd indeed. If the company is too poor or too cheap to put on a party for their employees for Christmas, they shouldn't bother with one. Not ask the employee to provide the food and then say, "Oh, and by the way, your wife can't come!" How silly is that?? I would not buy into that and I know for a fact that if that were the case, my husband would not attend either. It's just not done that way....very strange. The lady organizing this must have a screw loose somewhere....but that's just my opinion! You did ask for it! :)

Its kind of unusual that those kind of parties (non family office only) happen on a Saturday. Usually it would be consider acceptable to bring one guest if its during personal time.
Anyway, you should make something amazing so everybody can tell your husband what a great wife he has.

Yes yes yes, make something and make it damn good! Make them want to beg for that special dish at the next potluck they have. You'll be remembered for it and in a good way, so don't just throw something together..bust out the big guns for this one and knock their socks off making them want more! It'll feel good to have your hubby come home and tell you about how everyone loved it and ate it all up, right? :)

Yeah, be the better person. But December 13th? That is a long time to cook.

I wouldn't go to any party my spouse wasn't invited to. Maybe someone should take this lady by the shoulders and shake some sense into her. People should not have to even bring food to a work party.

I wonder why they assume that men can't cook...? Anyway, you have a long time to plan for it- I would make something if it were me, only becuase I like to cook!

No..not because I was not invited but because she is delegating these guys to have their WIVES make the food.
