What is a good desert to have with this meal?!

Question: What is a good desert to have with this meal?
I am making chicken stir fry for my father for supper. I want to make him a desert as well. He loves anything sweet, like cookies, pie, anything along those lines. So if you could give me some suggestions on what to make that would be great! Thank you.

Answers:

I would base dessert on what I had for dinner. If you had rice with the stir-fry, I wouldn't do a rice/bread or oatmeal dessert. If the stir-fry has any sweetness (from certain vegs or the sauce), I would skip a very sweet dessert and have something more fresh fruit-based, like some mango or pineapple cut-up with some cookies. If you wanted to stay in theme with the stir-fry (I assume it is a Chinese/Asian type of stir-fry), I'd consider almond cookies or something with fruit and/or jello, or maybe something anise/licorice flavored. If your Dad's just an all-American type like my Dad, then I'm sure he'll like whatever you make, as long as it's not too weird. Since stir-frys are kind of light, you could make something heavier: cake, pie, sundaes, trifle. If he's a light eater, maybe a batch of cookies would be good: chocolate chip, shortbread, snickerdoodles. There's a really good cookie recipe online called Francois Payard flourless chocolate walnut cookies that are a big favorite for people observing Passover. They are easy and taste really great, almost like a brownie, but better.

CHOCOLATE OATMEAL NO-BAKE COOKIES

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup peanut butter

Combine sugar, cocoa, butter and milk in a saucepan. On medium heat, bring to a boil for one full minute.
Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter (optional), vanilla and oatmeal.

Drop by spoonful onto wax paper. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.

Rice pudding, maybe? (Especially if you're already making rice for the stir fry.)

I love apple pie and I believe it's a desert that fits in every menu...
Enjoy the supper!

Seems something like vanilla ice cream or sherbet would be great. What a sweetie you are to cook for your dad.
