Should the police reimburse me for my door?!

Question: Should the police reimburse me for my door?
I'm a college student and I rent a room in a house with 3 other people. We all have individual locks on our doors, so I have a key for the house and a separate one for my room. Anyway, I was gone for the weekend and I locked my room, but my roommate threw a party that got busted. The police insisted on breaking down the door to my room to search for hiding minors. I understand that the police have a job to do, but my roommate was trying to cooperate and this was the only door he couldn't open for them. So, I was wondering if there was some sort of claim I could file.

Answers:

With regards to shared housing the US Supreme Court has said, any roommate can grant law enforcement approval to search Common Shared Areas. i.e. living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. But a looked room, where only 1 roommate has access is considered a private residence, and carries then same Reasonable Expectations of Privacy as a detached home. Any evidence found in your room would be thrown out in court. As such, if the cops hear evidence of a crime taking place, then a warrant wouldn't be needed to enter your locked room.

US Supreme Court Doctrine

yes they have to cause theres no way any one could get in the room but you its ust like kicking down the front door to your house or breaking the windows if the house is on fire but it is the wrong house

Since they did not find anything the city may pay for the damaged door.
Usually you need to contact the city secretary.

bill the city.

Yes. Contact the chief of police.
