how long to cook pork butt in slow cooker?!

Question: How long to cook pork butt in slow cooker?
I want to cook about 14oz of pork butt in the slow cooker. How long should I do it for? I've never used a slow cooker before. I found this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Kalua-Pig-i… but I need to adjust it for only a pound.

BTW....I don't put any water it in it or something? It won't burn if I just stick the meat in there?

Answers:

I've been wanting to try this recipe, too! I live in Hawaii and love kalua pork, even though I don't really like pork. Anyway, for nearly two pounds of meat, I'd guess the normal 8 hours would work fine. Every time I cook a beef pot roast of about the same size, it falls apart at the 8 hour mark.

The beauty of slow cookers is there isn't much required. If you feel odd about no liquid, go ahead and add a little, but it doesn't take much. I'd stick with water since the main flavor of kalua pork is the smoky flavor. Don't want to add something like beer that might mess with that.

It needs to cook for 6 to 8 hours on low and yes, you do need to put some kind of liquid in there or it will stick to the crock pot. You only need a little, like 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup, and it doesn't have to be water, apple juice would be nice with pork or maybe some orange juice. I just looked at your recipe, and it says not to add any kind of liquid. Just from experience, I myself would add a little water, just to be on the safe side.

No you DO NOT need any liquid...I just spray mine with cooking oil spray ..if you don't have that put a little oil on a paper towel and rub the inside of the pot...Put the meat in and cook for 4 to 6 hours on low...the meat will create it's own juices...

The point of cooking in the crock pot is cook low and slow...

Good luck !!!

I've never seen a 14 oz pork butt. Is it a chunk of pork butt? Anyway, I would say 4 hour slow, 2 hours high. Cook it until you can shred it with a fork.
