Doesn't the thawing & refreezing open you up to fodborne illnesses? I don't think it's safe. Maybe you could pop it out of the container & chip some pieces off or find a way to cut up the block...seems silly I know but I don't think thawing & refreezing is a good idea.
Use the defrost setting on your microwave and defrost for 5-10 minutes, removing the defrosted sauce as it melts or dissolves.. Keep doing this until you have enough defrosted sauce, then refreeze the rest of the still frozen or mostly frozen sauce. I've done it often and it was fine. You can also defrost all the sauce, heat until just boiling, allow to cool, then freeze in smaller containers.

I usually use an ice pick or sturdy short knife to break up things I've frozen in a hunk but want to use only a little of. Start somewhere in the middle, and chop at the same general area or line and you'll be able to get out a smaller amount.
If you really want to, you can remove the whole hunk (by running hot water around the outside of the Tupperware to loosen it), then place on a chopping board or something before going at it with the ice pick or knife (sometimes a strong fork will work too).
Thawing and refreezing won't be unsafe at all, but everytime that happens the food will get mushier and mushier, and just be a hassle to defrost.
Hammer and chisel (or meat tenderizer and table knife); break off a suitable sized chunk.
Just leave it outside of the freezer or in your cabinet and take some of it out, simple
