Answers:
the whole adding oil to it isn't true, you're just adding unnecessary oil. In italy they just add salt so the pasta doesn't stick. The size of the spaghetti will determine how long it takes to cook. Aside from what everyone else has already said, once you put the spag and salt in the water, leave the lid off til cooked. Also one other common problem is not putting enough water in the pot in the first place, be generous. It will take longer but it will ensure you cook it all at the same pace.

You boil it.

Boil it until it sticks to the ceiling. Then it's al dente.

You want the easy version? Boil plenty of water. Put some salt in and a couple of drops of oil (to keep the speghetti from sticking to each other). Once water is boiled, drop in the speghetti. When they start looking done, fish one out and try it for tenderness. Drain water. For sauce, just pour out a jar then warm it in the microwave or on the stove.

You can either buy spaghetti sauce or make your own. I usually brown some ground round/ground sirloin and add sauce from a jar and then add some of my own spices, oregeno, sugar, garlic, mushrooms, etc. Let the sauce thicken (cook the sauce while the water is boiling and past is cooking) and pour over noodles and voila! Spaghetti.

PS: Adding oil does keep the pasta from sticking together (Laura J) adding salt to the water is for taste and to make the water boil faster it does nothing to keep the pasta from sticking.

set water to a boil, add a little butter so that the pasta won't stick, add spaghetti, stir ocassionally, leave for about 8 to 10 minutes, take off fire, drain and add whatever topping(s) you like. Happy eating!

Parmesan Spaghetti

3/4 lb. (12 oz.) spaghetti, uncooked
1 jar (1 lb. 10 oz.) spaghetti sauce
1/3 cup KRAFT 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese

COOK spaghetti as directed on package.
MEANWHILE, bring spaghetti sauce just to boil in medium saucepan on medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 5 min. or until heated through, stirring occasionally.
DRAIN spaghetti; place in large bowl. Top with spaghetti sauce; toss to coat. Sprinkle with cheese.

Boil some linguini (fresh or dried) until al dente. Drain. Rinse with cold water.

Dice some Roma tomatoes. Don't peel. Don't seed. It's valuable nutrition. Plus. The seed will make lovely juice. Chiffonade some basil. Mince some garlic. Toss them in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Let sit for an hour.

Heat some olive oil in a large saute pan. Saute the tomato mixture until heated through. Don't let the tomatoes melt! Mix in the pasta and serve.

Or the way I do it--- boil a bag of pasta (whichever size you r in the mood for: waves, thin(#@ for instince), thick(#4 Perhaps) according to directions. Then warm up a jar of RAGU sauce. I perfer to brown a pound of ground meat, but my hubby likes to add meatballs that can be done in the oven or microwave). Mix it all together! And enjoy!!!!

boil water, add salt and pasta.....you'll know if its cooked when u break the spaghetti and u see the very center still raw or white...but just a little a dot.

Spaghetti
Ingredients
1/2 box Spaghetti noodles
1/4 jar Ragu spaghetti sauce
1/4 lb Ground turkey
Parmessan cheese
Preparation

Cook the spaghetti noodles according to package directions. Cook the ground turkey until done and mix with the sauce until heated. Pour the sauce over the noodles. Steam the broccoli in a saucepan with a little water and sprinkle on some cheddar cheese and you're done.

Laura J is right:
Italian people don't add oil in the water but two or three pinches of salt (dependin on the quantity of water).

Fill a big saucepan with water and add the salt (rock salt).
Wait for it boils.
Put spaghetti in BOILING water and wait for the time indicated by the packet.
Then drain pasta in a colander.
