Having a picnic need ideas for side dishes...?!

Question:

Having a picnic need ideas for side dishes...?

Fried Chicken, homemade potato salad...if you came to this picnic what other side dishes would be delightful to you?...having a hard time coming up with a full menu because i don't really cook allot....

Answers:
fruit salad. is always a catcher.

baked beans
pasta salad
cucumber salad
deviled eggs
fruit salad
cobbler
rolls or biscuits

All the standards. Cole slaw, macaroni salad, beans (hot or cold). Picnics are supposed to be fun so all the "one dish" sides hold down on prep when you get there.
Have fun
Oh and bring plenty of soda or iced tea!
Peter

tater salad :)

Couscous with Cilantro, Sundried Tomatoes, Shallots, and Lemon

Herb Roasted Three-Color Potatoes

Jicama Salad with Mangoes, Avocados, Peanuts, and Thai Basil with a Coconut Milk-Toasted Sesame-Lime Dressing.

A fruit salad is yummy and simple. Just cut up your favorites and throw 'em in a bowl. I like apple, pineapple, grapes, cantaloupe and watermelon. If you squeeze a little bit of lemon juice on the the apples, they won't turn brown and icky too quickly.
You may even think about a veggie tray. You can serve baby carrots, celery sticks, and cherry tomatoes. You can use sour cream, and hidden valley ranch mix for an easy veggie dip. The fat free sour cream tastes just as good as the real stuff in that dip btw.
Oh, and how about some sugar cookies for dessert!

I know two easy bean dishes made with pork and beans in a can.

You can just had tomato onion and dill pickle to the can. I thought it sounded gross as first but it is good and everyone like it.

You can also add ketchup, brown sugar and honey to them and make baked beans.

If you don't like baked beans, make a fruit salad or bowl of mixed fruit no cooking required.

I also like Cauliflower and broccoli salad but I don't know how to make it.

mmm..you can add some finger sandwiches. They are good and good for you.

You can put some margarine, pepperoni/bologne/roastbeef/tu... slices, sliced cheese, mustard and you are good to go.

Also, chips and dip do not fail a picnic.

Potato chips, Doritos, cookies if there are children coming. Macaroni salad (easy to make) Boil your macaroni, eggs, add mayo, add pickle relish, mix all together. Hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. Cole slaw. There are all kinds of good things. Bush's baked beans are as good as anyone can make and you don't have to do anything except heat them up.

italian focaccia...mmmmm good!!

hmm fruit salad, cheese with crackers, some veggies maybe yogurts,

I 'low carb', so I'd probably pass on the potato salad, but I'd bring a nice green salad or cole slaw. For dessert I'd bring a 'berry pie':

1 small box sugar free 'cook & serve' pudding (instant if can't find 'cook & serve'

1 small box sugar free Jello to match berries used (really, any red SF Jello will work)

1 cup water

1/4 cup heavy cream

Strawberries, blueberries, or small bag of frozen berry medly.

____
Fill pie pan about 3/4 full of berries.

Mix powders in saucepan, whisk in water and bring to beginning of simmer (tiny bubbles) while stirring constantly. Stir in cream.

Pour over berries in pie pan and refrigerate a few hours.

Just when and where is this picnic you're inviting us all to? 8-)

Fruit salad and deviled eggs as far as home made dishes, then I'd get some cole slaw to round out the basics. That gives you a main dish and four popular sides.

There's nothing wrong with adding cubed cheese and your favorite crackers as well. Two other things you might add, if you feel adventurous, are oil cured olives (very, VERY tart, but really addictive) and possibly pickled asparagus (I know it sounds gross, but when chilled, they are quite tasty). Both are available at your local grocer.

I've brought the olives and asparagus to every picnic I've been to, only about half the people there will try them, but they are almost always completely consumed. You either love them or hate them, but if you love them, you can't get enough!

Jars of sweet and dill pickles, black and green olives

Fruit salad - peaches, bananas, melon cubes, blueberries, strawberries, any soft fruit. Make a little dressing of vanilla yogurt and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Tossed salad-keep it simple, just lettuce, tomatoes, and Italian dressing.

Baked beans - canned are fine

Chips and dip

Hollowed out loaf of rye bread filled with dill dip (you can buy the dip ready made in the deli dept of any grocery store)-use the cubed rye bread to dip in the dill dip.

Tray of cut vegetables with ranch dip - green, orange & yellow peppers, cucumber sticks, baby carrots, celery

Bring anything that you like and is easy to eat. I think strawberries, fresh or dried figs, mejool dates, peeled and sliced mangos, or some grapes would be fun, and delicious. I love olives and cheese a nice brie or herb goat cheese. If you can a fruit pie is the grand finale. I can not see any picnic being complete without a little slice of pie. Enjoy the day

You could make a pasta salad. Its very easy and will withstand the tempatures of outside. Here's how.

1 lb box of rotoni noodles cooked and drained. Aldentee please.
1 container of grape tomates washed and drained
1 seedless cucumber sliced. You can peel first if you prefer
2 sticks of celery sliced into half moon thin slices.
1 jar of zesty italian salad dressing.

Mix all ingredients together. Will last all day and is also great for leftovers the next day.

You could also make fruit kabobs. Very easy but time consuming.

Take cantelope and cut into larger dices
1 pkg of strawberries
1 honeydew mellon cut into larger dices.
1seedless green or red grapes
marchino cherry

Add each one to a skrewer stick rotating each one. example cantelope, strawberry, mellon grape top with cherry. Very pertty and they will think you worked all day on it.

Hope these ideas help.

Deviled eggs, marinaded fresh vegetables, 3-bean salad.
And especially Watermelon!
