Fairy Cakes?! HELP?!!!!!!!!!!?!

Question:

Fairy Cakes?! HELP?!!!!!!!!!!?

I'm making fairy cakes, and i put everything in the bowl, vanilla essence, flour, sugar, baking powder, and butter...and i put the egg last, i have NO eggs, my parents are in a meeting so they cant get eggs, i need ONE egg, is there anything else i could use which is equivalent to an egg?

Answers:
tofu, banana, apple-sauce (any pureed non-acidic fruit) yoghurt.... the banana and apple would bind the best. Even a bit of fruit pectin or gelatine will do in a pinch. Just make sure you use hot water to dissolve, and let it cool off.

Good luck!

OH- instant pudding or jello (jelly) mix, too...

You could add enough milk to make the mixture come together to a smooth and a little bit runny consistency. But using an egg would be better but try adding milk and see how they turn out. hope they are yummy.

ask nextdoor

Ask a neighbor

nope you need egg and best way to make cakes isnt to throw it all in a bowl. Mix the egg with butter and sugar first, Once mixed add some flour, mix it in and add a bit of milk and then more flour (you get the idea) I've done it that way for years but you need eggs to bind it.

A milk and butter mixture is the best replacement for eggs, for both taste and consistency.

You don't mention the size of your mixture so best use the ratio of 1tsp butter to 2 tsp milk and blend to a smooth consistency before beating into the cake mixture.

Yum! Hope they taste good.

If you have a regular local shop maybe he will let you have an egg or 6 and let you pay later. Put on your best grovvelling face.

For one egg, when making cakes, you can substitute the following:

2tbsp plain flour, half tbsp fat (butter, marg), half tsp baking powder plus 2 tsps water.

OR

half large mashed banana

OR

50ml white sauce.

There are other foods you can use instead, but I'm guessing that you don't have garam flour or tofu lying about the kitchen..

Good luck...

I have seen mayonnaise used in place of butter and eggs before on a kids TV programme, and when I had a go it wasn't bad, but if you've already mixed the wet and dry ingredients you're kind of stuck.

How about a speedy run next door to ask if they have a spare egg? So long as you ask nicely, look pathetic and offer to pay for or replace it they probably won't mind, especially if you also throw in a cake! If necessary say you dropped the box and your eggs broke - not that I advocate lying, but if you are really desperate...

Good luck!

Go out yourself and buy eggs or ask a neighbour to lend you one. Then get a recipe book that gives you a recipe for non egg sponge, eggs are not needed in all sponge recipe mixtures. I have one but will have to look it out. will get back to you.

whisk in some milk, using an electric whisk if possible until you get to the right consistency. oh and the best way to make a cake, for next time, is to cream together the butter and sugar first. then add your egg(s) or egg substitute. Then fold in self raising flour with a metal spoon.

Egg in cooking is known as the glue it holds all the other ingredient's together so to add something else will not work in the same way
Good Luck

Only one egg, crikey! just how many fairy cakes do you expect to make? The measurements of flour, sugar, butter etc, would be so small, you would only manage to make about 6 or 7 if that. Hardly worth all the effort and time. Wait until you have more eggs, so that you can increase the quantity of the ingredients and make a decent batch.
