What kind of pan is the best to cook a meatloaf in?!

Question:

What kind of pan is the best to cook a meatloaf in?

i've been using regular loaf pans, metal and glass but the meat doesn't seem to cook evenly, i want it to be tender but fully cooked, i'm a new cook so if you could be specific that would be great, thank you!

Answers:
I use casserole dishes to cook meat loaf in, round or square and they are glass. I turn the oven on to 350. and let it cook about and hour - an hour and a fifteen minutes.

try a casserole dish or shallow cake pan, this will allow it to cook more evenly, and quicker too!

We've always done them in glass or metal loaf pans

Line a loaf pan with parchment paper (or wax paper) and see if you don't get the results you're looking for.

Bon chance et bon apetit

It may be your oven...this best oven for baking is a convectional oven because the fan spreads the heat evenly throughout the oven.

you form it into loafs and then lay it in a cast iron pan like you would put on your stove it comes out so crispy and yummy

I use a 13 x 9 glass pan, spray the bottom of it with no-stick cooking spray really good.

I have a Home & Garden Stoneware loafpan, and I also have a silicone loafpan, both cook very good. Both seem to distribute the heat evenly and the meatloaf doesn't stick to either one...good luck. Silicone pans are just lots cheaper than the stoneware.

My mom always made good meatloaf and she used and swore by a glass loaf pan. Make sure your racks in the oven are in the middle and the oven is pre-heated before you place the meatloaf in the oven that should ensure even baking.

Cook in a loaf pan at 325 degrees until the internal temperature is 160 degrees. You can get a meat thermometer at Walmart for a couple of bucks. You insert it to get the temperature, take it out, wipe it off and use it again until the you get the required temp.

I always justed used a meatloaf pan. try putting a little cut in the middle and sides so there is 3 cuts. That helps sometimes and if not use a cake pan and place the meatloaf in it.

i make mine in a cake pan , in the shape of an oval,2-3 " thick, after it,s cooked i take the foil off and brown the top:)

I cooked my first mealoaf the other day and it came out perfectly. I just shaped it into a loaf and place it on a regular metal roasting tin.

It doesn't really matter what type of pan you use. It sounds more like your oven might be set too high. Also, here is a neat thing to do with meatloaf I learned a long time ago. You know how grease builds up and tends to burn the edges of your meatloaf? Well, take a small pyrex bowl and turn it upside down and place your raw groundmeat around it. As it cooks it pulls away from the bowl some and you are able to lift it out and suck up that excess grease. You can place the bowl back in to keep it's shape. The bowl will be very hot so be careful. The hole you are left with... place some type of other food or garnish in it. I've gotten lots of compliments on my display. As a new cook, don't ever be afraid to try something. If it doesn't work, don't do it again. But if it does, it could become someone's favorite dish. Good luck and enjoy!

I found a plain baking pan like a 9x13 should do just fine wrap the meat in baking paper

It just so happens, I saw a program last night called Good Eats. On there a guy cooked a meatloaf. He used a loaf pan, about 5 x 9 with 2 " sides, only to mold the meat, he then lined a large flat pan with small sides with parchment paper, and flipped the mold over, and plunked it down in the middle of the bigger pan. He then lifted the mold pan right off. He coated it with a mixture of ketchup, cumin, worchestershire, tabasco, and honey to make a glaze. He cooked it at 325 until the middle temp is 180 degrees. I missed the recipie for the meat, but I am guessing that part would be pretty much universal. Oh, he did say to put one, and only one egg in the mixture.
Good luck,

Stevo.

Sounds to me like your oven temperature is off. Buy an oven thermometer and check it out. Too, while you are at it ... buy a meat thermometer. Neither one is very expensive. At 325 to 350 degrees, a normal sized meatloaf should cook within an hour.

Are you cooking for two???
""NEW"???
I use the mini loaf Aluminum throw-aways
But you can use a larger size.
Most any attempt for me,,-- requires 4-5 mini pans
after adding all the stuff even if I start with 1lb of burger.
I freeze 3 loaves, cook one for now, and one for the fridge.. the next day or so.

I cook for a very large family so the loaf pan is out.
alot of the time i just put it in my largest cake pan .I pat it in there till it,s a little over the top cause it will shrink.also it helps to have a catch tray underneath with water in it for grease run off.
then when it,s done i cut it into squares. who says it has to be loaf shaped?
I like this way because it cooks faster and more evenly.with loaf pans it seemed to get dry and crusty on the outside while still raw on the inside. gross!
good luck><>

I use a Wilton insulated loaf pan, this never fails, these pans are a little more expensive but completely worth it...I use all Wilton pans for baking...I live in Canada and buy them from Canadian Tire...look them up online in your area if you live in the US, they are a famous brand...

My meatloaf always cooks fine, and I use a loaf pan. Maybe the reason its not cooked evenly is more due to your oven. And for tender meatloaf the key is to not over mix it. Doing that will make the meat touch. Hope this helps....Good luck
