Anybody know of an awesome Shepherd's Pie recipe?
My Mom used to make it alot while I was growing up but she can't remember the recipe (because of M.S.). Any great recipes would be appreciated. I prefer recipes you've actually tasted not something copied from a website. Thank you in advance!

I make this all the time, and everybody loves it!
lb. ground beef
1 can peas
1 can sweet corn
1 medium onion, diced
1/3 c. sugar
8 medium potatoes
2 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Boil potatoes, mash and season to taste with milk and butter.
Brown ground beef and onion with salt and pepper. When cooked, add peas, corn, sugar. Let simmer until heated through.
In 13x9 pan place meat and vegetable mixture in bottom of pan. Cover with mashed potatoes and sprinkle cheese on top.
Place in oven on BROIL until cheese is bubbly or light brown.

Easy Shepherd Pie
1 1/2 lbs ground round beef
1 onion chopped
1-2 cups vegetables - chopped carrots, corn, peas
1 1/2 - 2 lbs potatoes (3 big ones)
8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt, pepper, other seasonings of choice
1 Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes).
2 While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan.
3 Sauté onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 mins). If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked.
4 Add ground beef and sauté until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add worcesterchire sauce. Add half a cup of beef broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist.
5 Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste.
6 Place beef and onions in baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well.
7 Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.
Serves four.
Mine is just like your first answer, minus the peas. :)
I make mine this way. Brown your hamburg with some onions. I use both whole kernel corn and creamed corn. Mix the hamburg with the corn. Maked mashed pototoes and layer that on top of the hamburg/corn mixture. You can either serve it right away, or put it in a 350 degree oven to brown the top of the pototoes.
gee, i was just talking to a customer tonight about this (im a server). she said she uses tomato sauce, paste or puree w/ the beef. sorry i dont remember, but wanted to let u know that some put tomato something or other in it, in case thats they way your mom made it. best to you all :)
My Friends mom use to make this for me back in the day. She got this recipe out of a cook book.
1/4 lb chopped smoked bacon
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 lb ground beef or pork
1 t thyme, finely chopped
1/2 C thick seasoned tomato sauce
1 t Worcestershire sauce
1 package frozen mixed vegatables
4 C, or more, fresh mashed potatoes
1/2 C white chedder cheese grated, I have used different kinds of cheeses the best to me is the mexican cheese if you like a little spice.
salt or seasoning salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 Clove of Garlic chopped finely
options
chopped green peppers and ground smoked turkey works well also instead of the pork and beef.
Preheat the oven to 350°. Fry the onion, garlic, and bacon together until golden brown. Add the minced beef or pork, and the thyme, frying until the meat is brown and crumbly. Sitr in the tomato sauce and other seasonings.
Remove this mixture to the bottom of a medium casserole. Layer the frozen mixed vegatable over the top. Cover with mashed potatoes, smooothed down using a spatula to form a 'crust.' Sprinkle chedder cheese evenly on top of the potatoes.
Bake for 45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown. Serve hot
The one I make over and over again:
Make a stew on the stove top using ground beef, onions, carrots, peas, corn, and spices of your preference (chicken works too). Put the stew into a large baking dish and top with mashed potatoes as your topper. Top that with a some grated cheese of your choosing, salt/pepper, and garlic powder. Bake uncoved around 375 until potatoes have browned and cheese it melted.
